Mixed cometition!
Now we are done with the first mixed competition in a world championchip ever! the girls are improving and some of them are jumping longer than the boys today! congrats! Japan are in a very good shape now and especially Sara Takanashi, she had the longest jump today. solid jumping from them. Austria on second place with Morgenstern back on track and Gregor Schlierenzauer always doing what his suppose to do. The girls had quite good jumps today too.
the bronze medal went to Germany! In mixed it's not enough having good boys. you need good girls too. Norway got the bitter fourth place this time. they said that it was not that they were jumping bad but the other nations where just too good today. yesterday's world champion was of course on the team together with Tom Hilde, Maren Lundby and Anette Sagen.
now the girls are done with there world championchip but the boys have two competitions left. one individual - big hill and one Team competition in the big hill.
Good Luck!

Norwegian women, yes.
ReplyDeleteBut top ones are quite different story:
Sara Takanashi: 101.5/106.5 m
Sarah Hendrickson: 99.0/104.5 m
Richard Freitag: 102.5/97.0 m
Tom Hilde: 102.0/98.5 m
Schlierenzauer: 99.0/100.0 m
Japan won gold, mainly because of Takanashi, but other three were very good.
Americans were 6th only because Hendrickson and Jessica Jerome. Otherwise they most likely wouldn't qualify in second round.
By the way, at individual competition two days before Hendrickson won gold (106.0/103.0 m), Takanashi silver (104.5/103.0 m), Jacqueline Seifriedsberger bronze (102.0/95. m); Coline Mattel 4th place (102.0/95.5 m).
Also in Holmenkollen women jumped in alternation with men (two competition under one roof, so to speak):
Best female jumpers:
Takanashi: 134.5/133.5 m
Hendrickson: 133.5/129.m
Seifriedsberger: 123.5/125.5 m
Best male jumpers:
Schlierenzauer: 134.5/135.0 m
Piotr Zyla: 135.5/133.5 m
Robert Kranjec: 134.0/126.0 m
So, as I see it, if competition would be truly mixed, jumper against jumper, without regard to gender, it would be very hard to predict who would win, and that would be real spectacle.
